The Squish As is the compressor you can rely on to preserve the richness of your tone while bringing out nuances you might not have noticed before.

At its core, the Squish As features a best-in-class Blackmer® Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) and True RMS Detector. While optical and JFET compressors are popular for their musical character, they often come with increased distortion, limited dynamic range, and unpredictable transfer functions. The high-end VCA and True RMS Detector deliver natural, high-fidelity dynamics processing. Use it to smooth out notes, tame peaks, or add subtle depth with parallel compression by cranking the Ratio and dialing back the Blend control. It’s the perfect always-on compressor.

The Squish As supports a wide range of input signals, including bass guitar, high-output pedals, and synthesizers, thanks to its full audio bandwidth and sensitivity range of -6.3dBu to -46.3dBu. Its ultra-low noise floor of -96dBu ensures it fits seamlessly anywhere in your signal chain. The variable Ratio control (1:1 to ∞:1) gives you everything from transparent smoothing to brick-wall limiting, while up to 20dB of makeup gain and a tilt-style Tone control keep your sound intact.

Visual feedback is key to understanding compression, which is why the Squish As includes a gain reduction VU meter. This handy feature shows the exact amount of gain reduction in real time, making it easy to dial in your settings and understand exactly what the compressor is doing.

The Squish As’ Attack rate is program-dependent, automatically adjusting based on how you play. The harder you play, the faster the attack. Some useful guidelines for Attack are:

• 3dB gain reduction will take approx. 42ms
  
• 6dB gain reduction will take approx. 20ms
  
• 10dB gain reduction will take approx. 15ms
  
• 20dB gain reduction will take approx. 5ms
  

The Release will always be slow relative to the Attack, at a fixed rate of 125dB/s or 8ms/dB. Some useful rules of thumb for Release are:

• 3dB recovery will take approx. 24ms
  
• 6dB recovery will take approx. 48ms
  
• 10dB recovery will take approx. 80ms
  
• 20dB recovery will take approx. 160ms
  

The Release time is fixed at 125dB/s (8ms/dB), ensuring a slower release relative to the attack for smooth, musical compression. For example:
